Hyundai is recalling more than 421,000 potentially affected Santa Cruz and Tucson models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed Monday. Affected vehicles include the 2025-2026 Santa Cruz pickup truck as well as the Tucson, Tucson Hybrid, and Tucson plug-in electric hybrid (PHEV) SUVs.
Overly sensitive software in the front cameras may cause the forward collision avoidance system to activate and apply the brakes unexpectedly. Other drivers may not expect such sudden braking, resulting in an increased risk of rear-end collisions with the Hyundai vehicles under recall. Hyundai reported four crashes and injuries possibly related to this issue. It is estimated that only 1% of these vehicles have this defect.
The camera software has been retuned to better align with drivers’ expectations. The software update will be installed at a Hyundai dealer at no cost to the owner.
Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
