Ram Charts a Course for the next Five Years

Ram expects to be Stellantis’ biggest North American growth story over the next four to five years, and judging by its sales trajectory and future product timeline from last week’s FaSTLAne 2030 event, it has a strong case. With the truck- and van-only marque already showing strong momentum in the U.S., Ram plans to build on that progress with a trio of hot street trucks arriving soon and several all-new models to follow.

Starting with what’s coming soon, Stellantis head of American brands and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis revealed the 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee series at the Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan during a separate enthusiast-focused live production, one with the kind of fanfare we’ve come to expect from Kuniskis. One by one, he introduced each variant of the Rumble Bee by having each one driven around the final turn of the main course and onto the straight, directly toward the stands and all of us. As he announced their names, each truck flew by at an exhilaratingly short distance from the audience at a speed I can only presume was at least 100 mph. If you were in the front row, it was quite something to experience.

The three trucks are based on the current-generation 1500, so the core interior and exterior bits have not changed. One thing that has changed is that all variants feature a quad-cab, short-bed setup riding on a frame that is 13 inches shorter. The wheelbase also takes a cut, at over a foot shorter than the standard truck. This trimming is noticeable in person, and because these are street trucks, they ride lower to the ground as well. Two of them can even adjust that height, but I’ll get to that.

While the engines in the rest of the 1500 lineup utilize “eTorque” mild-hybrid technology and automatic engine start-stop functionality, the Rumble Bees forego both entirely. The standard 1500 Rumble Bee is based on a lower trim of the 1500 but draws power from the “Eagle” 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which produces 395 hp and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. You’ll start to understand its positioning in the hierarchy once you get a look at the interior. It’s a perfect blank canvas for the aftermarket and possibly the smartest purchase of the three, though pricing is still TBA.

The middle child is the 1500 Rumble Bee 392, rocking the “Apache” 6.4-liter Hemi V8, making it the first 1500 to receive this higher-displacement Hemi option since the current generation debuted in 2018. Here, it will deliver 470 hp and 455 lb.-ft. of torque. A Track Pack variant will also be available, adding a dedicated track driving mode and a power-limited valet mode to the existing auto, sport, snow, tow, and custom modes. The 392 Track Pack also features an adjustable air suspension that lowers the truck 1.5 inches for improved handling in track mode.

2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT

At the top, wearing a striking black-and-yellow paint scheme, is the 1500 Rumble Bee SRT. It rides on the 392 Track Pack’s same air suspension but drops the mighty “Hellcat” 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 from the TRX under the hood, giving this street truck serious power. With 777 hp and 680 lb.-ft. of torque, the SRT only needs 3.4 seconds to reach 60 mph, making it one of the quickest trucks ever put into production. Want a TRX that isn’t so focused on unpaved shenanigans? This might be your kind of truck.

Every Rumble Bee will route power through an 8-speed automatic to all four wheels via full-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) and be built in Saltillo, Mexico. The standard 1500 Rumble Bee will reach dealer lots by the end of this year, while the 392 and SRT will follow in the first half of 2027.

As for what’s coming later for Stellantis as a whole, check out our rundown of the FaSTLAne 2030 event for a broader look at the entire portfolio. As for Ram, the company is looking to re-enter a few segments that it hasn’t served in the U.S. for years — in some cases, decades. Among them is a midsize truck with a very familiar name and a full-size SUV that steals its name back from the freshly rebadged 1500 REV extended-range electric vehicle. We look forward to seeing the company pull back the curtain on each of these new products in the coming months and years.
