2027 Ford Explorer ST Gets Sinister With New Package

Ford has unveiled a first look at its brooding 2027 Explorer ST Sinister package, which it says pays homage to the ST community and features a bold, “aggressive” appearance.

The new package builds on the performance-oriented Explorer ST with dark-accented badging, glowing amber running lights, 21-inch glossy black wheels, and a blacked-out aesthetic. The Sinister package comes at a modest cost of $1,695.

Ford says it was inspired by what many Explorer ST owners were already doing to personalize their vehicles.

“The Explorer ST Sinister package is more than just a styling package. It is a reflection of a community that pushed the platform forward,” Ford said in announcing this variant of its popular 3-row midsize SUV.

Looks aren’t the only thing that’s aggressive about this package. This edition of the Explorer retains the ST’s sport-tuned suspension and a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that delivers 385 horsepower. Although it’s a midsize SUV, Ford says this Explorer offers “sports car acceleration and handling in a family-sized package.”

The ST Experience

In addition to the dark Sinister aesthetic, Ford announced the return of the Explorer ST Experience. Shoppers who purchase a 2026 or 2027 Explorer ST will receive an invitation to one day of professional driving school. The experience is described as a place to learn from professional instructors to advance driving technique, including “the art of cornering, precision, handling, and experience the true power of the ST.”

In addition to honing these driving skills, attendees will be able to connect with other ST owners.

The 2027 Ford Explorer is expected to arrive on dealer lots later this year. Full-line pricing details will come closer to launch.
